Swimmers from sirens swimpolo nursery attended the 1st Age Group Swimming Meeting last Saturday 21th January.

Unfortunately the Sirens Team was missing a few swimmers from the Elite squad due to injuries and flu bugs, but with a mix of young and old it provided an electric atmosphere and many of Sirens younger swimmers were competing for the first time. By the looks of the smiles on their faces, it won’t be the last!

The swimmers all put in a fantastic effort and the results proved that; in total 19 sirens swimmers took part, with 50% of the total swims being new personal best times.

We would like to congratulate and thank the parents and swimmers, for their dedication, enthusiasm, and support. Special thanks to all our coaches for their hard work in developing this talented group of swimmers.

Sirens ASC has been invited to a very popular waterpolo festival to be held at the famous sports centre in Lignano, Sabbiadoro ,Udine. This festival is for children,girls and boys, born in 2001,2002 and 2003.

The club is highly interested to send a contingent to this festival, but prior to getting the ball rolling,we need to know who of the youngsters can travel between the 23^rd and 30^th June. It is the last week of the spring semester and most schools have no exams during that week (29^th is a holiday).

Kindly check with your child’s school if the child can be given permission to join Sirens during the last week of June and let us know as soon as possible. If we have the number we shall call a parents meeting and discuss further.

Parents can join the group and stay at the Sabbiadoro Centre (not with the children who will have their own accommodation) and besides supporting the youngsters they can enjoy the lovely golden sands and the exquisite cuisine/wine of the Friuli Venezia Giulia—you can even make it a family holiday.

For those interested are kindly respond by not later than the end of next week.

Your interest will make this event possible.

This Saturday January 7th, there will be a parents coach meeting at the Gillieru Hotel, St.Paul’s Bay for the following waterpolo teams:

Waterpolo U13, Waterpolo U15 and Waterpolo U17.

The meeting is for parents, to receive the information about our winter schedule. After the general session each coach will discuss in detail the upcoming season and answer any questions.

Sirens Swimpolo Nursery

We would like to say a huge thank you and well done to everyone who contributed to make the day a success.

A total of nineteen young Sirens ASC swimmers attended an intensive three day swimming training camp which was held at Qawra and the National Pool Complex between the 21^st and the 23^rd of December.

These athletes underwent a training programme set by coaches Davina Mangion and Daniela Deguara. Apart from the physical challenges, the team was instructed in swimming rules, training quizzes, communication challenges, and team building activities.

The team trained twice daily as well as took part in a number of social activities as well as enjoying some leisure time.  The camp came to an end with a team party.

This Training Camp proved to be a success. Such inter club activities help not only further develop athletes but also help invest in team spirit and improvement in cooperation and support towards one another.

Sirens would like to thank all the organizers and Sun Dream travel for supporting this club event.

Following the positive results obtained by both the Under 15 and Under 17 squads, all players, coaches and officials were treated to a meal at Zeppi’s Restaurant on Thursday the 23rd of December.

This year, Sirens Swimpolo Youth Nursery fielded a total of 52 players participating in four different categories; U11, U13, U15 and U17. In the U13 category, Sirens remained undefeated throughout the whole tournament. The U15 team finished as runners up, winning five games out of a total of seven. Sirens U17 kept their place at the top of rank, winning the winter championship.

Sirens would like to thank all organizers, coaches, assistants, administrators for their work.

The overall performances, excellent results and motivation shown by all our boys in all categories make the club extremely proud of our developing athletes.

Dear All

At this time of the year it is my honour to address all members including the active ones—swimmers and waterpolo players and not least all the youngster participating in the swimpolo nursery.

Sirens ASC is passing through a very important phase of transition in strengthening the senior waterpolo team by the club’s own bred players. Hopefully this year we shall experience a team made up of more under/20 players, it is up to them to train hard in winter and deliver in summer.

The same applies to the swimmers, there has been a big improvement over the last years and hopefully this is kept up by the youngsters for better successes in the coming year.

The Sirens ASC provides the platform for the preparation of all our aquatic athletes where as the parents have to sacrifice their free time and even work to have their youngster achieve their aims, the parents contribution is greatly appreciated by the committee, coaches and none the least by the club supporters.

We can achieve the desired successes by the contribution of all, whatever the contribution is, be it in time or in kind or financial. Let’s hold hands all together and move forward.

Match 1  Sirens 5 – Sliema 4

Quarterly:  0-1, 2-0, 1-1, 2-2

This was a satisfactory win against a spirited Sliema team. We came from behind to win this match. After a slow start and soon fell 1 goal down, we soon started to find our form and at half time we led 2-1.

Scorers: Marc 1, Matthew 1, John 1, Georg 1, Julian 1

Match 2  Sirens 3 – San Giljan 8

Quarterly:  1-1, 1-2, 1-4, 0-1

With many of our squad unavailable for a variety of reasons, this was a match were the statistics really do tell the story. We were level at first quarter and we were only one behind as we started the third quarter but we ran out of steam and eventually we were beaten by the team that currently top the division.

As the game went on it became obvious that we were going to struggle to play at the same tempo throughout and this proved to be the case.

The team was coached by Dejan Simeneov with some assistance from John Attard and Richard Micallef. They all deserve a vote of thanks for their efforts. So the season closed with a slightly disappointing defeat but we should be really proud of what we have achieved in such a short space of time. The challenge is to now to try and continue to improve and in a short meeting with the players after the two matches it was obvious that everyone is determined to come back even stronger in 2012.

Finally, as mentioned previously, we were lucky to have a large number of supporters with the team and all the team would like to thank everyone who came and supported us during this season.

Christmas is approaching and we are nearing the end of the autumn swimming season. Below please find the swimming remaining calendar of events for the month of December.

• 20^th December Last training session for groups AA, A, B ( Tal Qroqq )
• 23^rd December Last swimming lesson for groups C, D (Ta’ Qali)
• 21^st – 23rd December Training Camp
• 28^th December Picnic at Ta’ Qali adventure park for groups C, D

Training Camp

We will meet on Wednesday 21st at 0845 hrs at the hotel to deposit luggage. For those coming after school activities, we can meet you at the pool after 1000 hrs for the first training session or go directly to the hotel after 1230 hrs.

Winter Schedule

Lessons for the winter season will resume as follows:

• Wednesday 4^th January 2012 for Groups A, B + AA
• Saturday 7^th January 2012 for Groups C & D

The training schedule will remain the same as that of the autumn season. We look forward to another great, positive season of Swimming and Fun!
