A total of 28 swimmers participated in a camping session  held at GhajnTuffieha Scouts Camp Site. The camp started on Friday 11th and ended on Sunday 13th May. For most swimmers this was their first camping experience.  The group interacted and bonded socially through barbeques, story telling, a treasure hunt, group hikes and other activities which helped further refine the social  qualities within the club.

The programme  consisted of organized and other informal un organised time which all athletes  appreciated.  Training session were held at the National pool  as well as land training on the beach .

An outdoor mass was celebrated by Fr M. Muscat .The camp came to an end with a mother’s day lunch between the nursery members, families and friends.

It has been another good day at the National Pool this weekend, where our swimmers have continued with the good form. They have again swum fantastically and came away with 60% of swims were personal best or no-previous-time. A nice surprise after the Easter International Meets.

A shout-out goes to Nicholas Sammut for swimming the fastest 50 Fr time, and for continuing to swim personal best races. Rocio, Martina, Isaiah, Daniel and Nicholas achieving PBs in every one of the events they entered.

Let’s keep those stroke rates up, have some fun and continue to swim fast!!

A number of the club’s members are keen campers and Mary Ann Bugeja has kindly offered to organise a camping weekend for those that are interested in a weekend away.

This is a great opportunity for the kids to have some social time away from the rigours of training and competition.

The plum match on yesterday’s programme was the first one between Sirens Ritter Sport and San Ġiljan Giuseppe’s, a duel which was to determine the fourth team to proceed to the semi-finals play-off.

The Saints, yesterday parading their third foreigner for summer, Bodgan Rath, as assistant to coach Karl Izzo, were after no less than maximum points, a result which would edge them past Sirens on the basis of the head-to-head tussle.

They succeeded in their intent when eclipsing the northerners thanks to their 11-9 victory which condemned their opponents from a possible second place to a fifth position.

San Ġiljan had to turn the game around when trailing 6-3 at one stage in the second quarter.

At that point, Sirens were undone by Dino Zammit’s definite expulsion for serious foul play and eventual man down for the next four minutes.

This allowed the Saints to upstage their opponents and nose in front on 7-6. That lead was extended to two goals.

Meanwhile, the influential Sirens left-hander Juergen Borg was also dismissed for good midway through the third session.

Although Sirens closed the gap temporarily, San Ġiljan, led by Paul Fava and Matthew Pisani, as well as hat-trick scorer Karl Galea, saw their ship safely to port.

In vain were the five goals netted by Sirens’ captain David Cutajar.

The Swimming Committee is planning to organise a team building experience through a camping weekend. We chose this particular weekend so that the swimmers might have a short break before they start preparing for their end of year exams.

This activity is going to be held at Għajn Tuffieħa Camp Site, (entrance near the parking area of the Golden Sands Resort) under the supervision of the Coaches , Members of the Committee and other Parents.

Camps will be hired for the occasion and showers and toilets would be available day and night. The Camp site is in a very secure location and the gate would be closed at night.

Dates: From Friday 11th May at 7.00pm till Sunday 13th May afternoon.

If you are interested to send your child to this activity, please let Coach Daniela Deguara know as soon as possible so that we could start making the necessary arrangements.

Except for a tiny blip in the third session, which had the teams sharing four goals, Neptunes Emirates were in complete control against Sirens Ritter Sport in yesterday’s first match.

A comfortable 10-6 victory rubberstamped the Reds’ clean sheet and their top spot in the table before the classification matches start towards the end of the month.

With Tony Camilleri guiding his lads to a 7-2 lead soon after the third quarter got under way, the result was practically sealed. In fact, the issue had never been in doubt as Niki Lanzon and Michele Stellini, each scorer of a hat-trick, and the hard-workers Clint Mercieca and Edward Aquilina played the early tune.

It was then a damage-limitation exercise for the northerners, with only Jurgen Borg, scorer of three goals, being able to somehow leave his mark.

Neptunes rotated most of their men with the issue having long been settled.

Sirens produced a fantastic performance at the Easter International Meet held last Friday 13^th and Saturday 14^th March.

Fielding a young team with some of the swimmers undertaking their first competitive swimming gala and against some much larger clubs, the team achieved a strong result overall.

All swimmers produced some outstanding performance and as a team they achieved an 80% personal best rate with PBs from swims.

There were some superb swims from Jeremy Bugeja and Nicholas Sammut, whilst Jeremy achieved six gold medals, two silver and personal best times in all entries, Nicholas Sammut also produced an excellent performance in winning three bronze medals in back stroke and new personal best times in all entries.

It was a good weekend and the team spirit was superb with swimmers cheering on their team-mates and celebrating their successes. The effort and commitment was brilliant and all came out with great credit.

Thanks to the parents as usual for their support and to Daniela Deguara for her help on the pool side.

Our coaches were really pleased with the contribution, effort and commitment put in by all the swimmers. The club now continues to train hard for the National Championships which are to be held in July.

The swimming team approached the competition with a training camp, team building activities and marked the end of winter term with a picnic supported by Park Towers Supermarket.

Sirens ASC are pleased to announce that Mecca Enterprises is once again sponsoring various activities at the club, foremost of which is the swimming section.

Club President Dr. Lino Vella said that it is particularly pleasing that Mecca Enterprises is aSt. Paul’s Bay based whose contribution is playing a key role in the development of the club. Over the past few years the Sirens swimming team has firmly established itself among the top three swimming clubs in Malta, progress that would not have been possible with the help of sponsors such as Mecca.

The President augured that the relationship will continue to bear fruit for the benefit of the local community.

We are pleased to announce that the bar and restaurant facilities at the club will from this year be run by John Farrugia and Kynan Muscat Scerri.

After the mishaps of the previous three years, John and Kynan have stepped in to ensure that the premises, so important to the very existence of the club, are run properly to help bring about a better atmosphere at the club.

The Sirens statute prohibits persons connected with the running of the bar to serve on the committee and both Kynan and John have now resigned from the committee.

Tonio Cremona has now been appointed Vice-President of the club instead of John Farrugia.

Sirens were equally dominant just as other top clubs as they churned out most of the goals in the second and third sessions.

Valletta Dhalia were trying to offer some challenge at particular intervals in the game. Joe Caruana Dingli’s team made use of most of the units in his squad before going into casual mode in the last session.
